In addition to these classes I am taking an Adobe Illustrator and an art class that deals with the art of Web Design.
History
My history. That word seems so big doesn’t it? Well I assure you that this is far from everything, but I will give a short synapses of where I’ve been in my work career. It seems like I have worked since I was 12 years old, oh wait I have. I actually grew up working for my stepfather’s floor care business and did this until I was 22. It was here that I learned my work ethic, and I honestly can’t thank my stepfather enough for showing me what it means to have integrity and to do a job right. I always thought that I might take over the business one day, but instead a part time job at a kitchen retail store changed my mind.
So at the age of 23 I left the family business and went into retail management at Lechters. I did this for the next year and a half. After Lechters, I went to Scottsdale to work for By George at the 5th Ave. shops. I spent a year and a half there until my family decided to move to be closer to my wife’s side of the family in South Bend, Indiana.
In South Bend I found myself working for Lechters a second time. Less than a year later Lechters went out of business and Wal-Mart came to South Bend, and I found myself at Wal-Mart. At Wal-Mart I stayed for 9 and half years. While I was there I held several different positions. I started as a Department Manager, then Receiving Manager, Photo Specialist, Photo Manager, Photo/ Wireless Manager, and finally ended my career with Wal-Mart as a Department Manager.
In leaving Wal-Mart, and retail, I decided to hit the reset button on life and do something that I have truly come to love. So I am currently a full time student and working towards my Web Developers Certificate, doing what I want to do, but I’ll talk more about this next.
My Passion
It’s a funny thing looking back over the past year. I have always felt at home on the computer, but when I sat down and first started to learn HTML it was like I was sliding into a comfy old pair of shoes. It just seemed right somehow. I passed my classes with flying colors and have fallen in love with coding and design.
I say this is my passion because when building a web site it should be done correctly from a technical standpoint, but it should say something deeper as well. It should be the clients vision translated into reality. In order to do this a Developer needs to become familiar with the clients web needs and make them their own to successfully create their vision.
All too often a web site is thrown together with cookie cutter layouts with very little personalization outside of the content. Powerful tools like Dreamweaver have been used as crutches instead of workspace for true creativity. It is my hope to be able to take another’s vision and make it a reality, something more than the ordinary. The ordinary litters the web already, the extraordinary is far and few between.
